Surrounding Area: (For those who do not know Setúbal)
Setúbal is a Portuguese city, capital of the district of Setúbal, being the seat of a municipality with 230.33 km² of area and 116 330 inhabitants, subdivided into 5 parishes.
The municipality is bordered to the west by the municipality of Sesimbra, to the northwest by Barreiro, to the north and east by Palmela and, to the south, the Sado estuary separates it from the municipalities of Alcácer do Sal and Grândola. The Troia peninsula, belonging to Grândola, lies in front of the city, between the Sado estuary and the Atlantic Ocean coastline.
The city is situated 32 km southeast of Lisbon, on the north bank of the mouth of the River Sado, and is flanked to the west by the Arrábida mountain range. The urbanized area is approximately 10 km².
The city of Setúbal has numerous neighborhoods, standing out among the most traditional the neighborhood of Troino, fontainhas, Bairro Santos Nicolau and Fonte Nova, areas where much of the fishing community lived. The Fontainhas began to be populated around the 17th century, mainly by people from the Aveiro area. After the construction of Avenida Luísa Todi it was necessary to create a new dock. The area is composed of numerous sleepers, wells and, unlike that of the Troino, is quite inclined. The Michel Giacometti Museum of Work is located in this area of the city, near the viewpoint of Fontainhas.
One of the strong attractions that Setúbal has to offer to those who visit it, are its beaches.
Setúbal has a set of beaches quite different from each other, but with a common characteristic: they are all inserted in the Natural Park of Arrábida.
